Lufthansa has introduced its latest premium lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal B, which will be welcome to the many Star Alliance passengers departing from the airport including Lufthansa, LOT and TAP Portugal. Covering 600 square metres, the new lounge brings a new contemporary elegance, balancing functionality with a sleek aesthetic that feels fresh yet still somewhat restrained.

The centerpiece of the lounge is the Skyline Bar, a stylish yet understated focal point where guests can enjoy an array of beverages. From expertly crafted cocktails to a curated selection of wines, spirits, and non-alcoholic options, the bar offers something for every palate. In a nod to local culture, it also features New Jersey craft beer on tap, bringing a touch of the Garden State into the space.
The bistro area serves up seasonal dishes made with fresh regional ingredients, such as Jersey cornbread with candied tomato jam and sandwiches featuring trumpet mushrooms, bacon, crisp lettuce, and tomato chutney on sourdough. The culinary offerings, while refined, maintain a subtle simplicity.

First Class passengers and HON Circle members are treated to a more exclusive experience in a private dining area, where they can enjoy an à la carte menu paired with a selection of premium wines and champagne. Albeit this section also feels less luxurious and a little more utilitarian.
This new lounge represents a significant investment of approximately €10m, signalling Lufthansa’s commitment to evolving its customer experience. However, despite the upgraded design, which Victoria Schuster, Vice President of Product & Customer Experience at Lufthansa Airlines, describes as “a new benchmark in passenger comfort,” the space maintains a somewhat impersonal and minimalist atmosphere. Schuster notes, “Our Newark lounge offers a modern environment that meets the needs of our passengers, providing cozy retreats for leisure travellers and functional workspaces for business customers. We continue to invest globally to meet both Lufthansa’s premium standards and the expectations of our guests.”

The lounge, which increases capacity by 25 percent to accommodate around 170 guests, serves First and Business Class passengers from all Lufthansa Group airlines flying out of Newark, along with HON Circle members and Senators.
While the multifunctional design caters to the diverse needs of travellers, with one-third of the space dedicated to business amenities such as communal tables with wireless charging and printing, the overall ambiance may feel somewhat clinical to those seeking warmth and personal touch and as this reflects Lufthansa’s new residential design palette it seems that future renovated lounges will still follow this somewhat soulless design.

The remaining areas, designed for relaxation, offer a variety of seating configurations, but the clean lines and muted colour palette, while sophisticated, may come across as a bit detached. Multifunctional rooms are available for meetings, calls, or family use, ensuring practicality, though the overall design language leans towards the efficient rather than the inviting.
My top tip is that you can actually visit the United Polaris lounge in Terminal C which is actually much better equipped with showers, large lounge areas and an impressive a la carte dining area even if you are travelling in Business Class internationally with another Star Alliance carrier. For you to maximise your time though, check-in online, go straight to Terminal C, through security and into the Polaris Lounge. From there you can take the shuttle bus to Terminal B. But note, it’s a one-way trip only. If you want to go back to Terminal C you have to go land-side again and go through security.
